Libya - Strategic Plan for Renewable Energy Development
The situation of the electricity sector in Libya needs proper and rapid improvement, and the energy generation is mainly based on conventional energies burning heavy or light oil or gas fuel with a total installed generation capacity of around 9,000 MW mainly located in the shores north of the country. The use of renewable energies would allow Libya to cope with the increasing demand resulting from reconstruction of infrastructure destroyed during the last years and use oil & gas products to earn revenues for the country. The objective of this assignment is to develop a strategic plan for renewable energy development in the country.

The overall GIZ project supports the regional dissemination of experience concerning renewable energies and aims at improving the capacities of utilities in the long term.
Output Area B of the project "Generation - RE flagship projects" follows a two-pronged approach:
- Documentation of information on and experience with existing RE flagship projects;
- Support to the development of planned projects through technical assistance for project development and transaction advice, accompanied by documentation of experience.

- Support to ECREEE in the process of screening, evaluating and prioritizing RE projects or promotion schemes

Under this program, the Green Climate Fund (GCF) allocated financial resources for investment projects to support selected partner countries to develop and implement their respective strategies for climate resilience and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The program included the following activities:
- Support programs for 3 selected national and regional development banks with a view to their accreditation for direct access to the GCF,
- Development of 10 national investment plans for projects suitable for GCF financing,
- Establishment of national, prioritised project pipelines of existing, updated or new GCF-ready projects, including 30 prefeasibility studies for suitable projects, or update of existing studies for suitable projects.
Projects referred to the following sectors: Forestry and agriculture, renewable energies (wind, biomass, PV), energy efficiency, transport, water and sanitation, and municipal solid waste management

A 428 km/400 kV transmission will transport power generated by the Lake Turkana Wind Power (LTWP) project to the national grid at Suswa, via Baragoi, South Horr, Marti, Morijo, Longewan, Rumuruti and Ol Kalou.
Work under the project’s focus included review of basic design, technical specifications and engineering design for the double-circuit line (steel lattice towers, composite insulators and ACSR conductors, double OPGW).
The project was carried out for Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) with financing from African Development Bank (AfDB).

Home Energy Africa (HEA) has obtained a siting clearance approval from the Energy Commission of Ghana for the installation of a 100 MW solar PV plant at Sankana, Nadowli-Kaleo District, Upper West Region. The site has a size of 200 hectares and shall be connected via a 161 kV power line. The electricity that will be produced by the planned PV plant shall be sold to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
HEA has retained the clean energy financial advisor GreenMax Capital Advisors to manage the solicitation of the different services required for the development of the above plant.

Pakistan - Study to Determine the Limit of Integrating Intermittent Renewable (Wind & Solar) Resources onto Pakistan National Grid
The Government of Pakistan encourages the development of renewable energy to close the gap between electricity demand and supply. The National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) is already in the process of integrating wind power, and many large and small solar parks have been added to NDTC's pipeline. NDTC requested to conduct the present power system study to clarify the limits of integrating RE into Pakistan's grid. The study includes the following subjects:
- Planning studies (load flow, dynamic and transient stability, impact of fault levels on substation protection and design, reactive power and voltage control, power quality issues, system flexibility requirements, system's frequency response)
- Operational studies (operation and control strategy, dispatch policy, methodology to forecast wind and solar power availability, determination of active spinning reserve)
- Financial analysis (determination of financial impact of wind and solar energy resources on Pakistan's overall energy mix)
All activities are closely coordinated with NTDC and the Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB).

02.2015 - 02.2016Pakistan - Study to Determine the Limit of Integrating Intermittent Renewable (Wind & Solar) Resources onto Pakistan National Grid
The Government of Pakistan encourages the development of renewable energy to close the gap between electricity demand and supply. The National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) is already in the process of integrating wind power, and many large and small solar parks have been added to NDTC's pipeline. NDTC requested to conduct the present power system study to clarify the limits of integrating RE into Pakistan's grid. The study includes the following subjects:
- Planning studies (load flow, dynamic and transient stability, impact of fault levels on substation protection and design, reactive power and voltage control, power quality issues, system flexibility requirements, system's frequency response)
- Operational studies (operation and control strategy, dispatch policy, methodology to forecast wind and solar power availability, determination of active spinning reserve)
- Financial analysis (determination of financial impact of wind and solar energy resources on Pakistan's overall energy mix)
All activities are closely coordinated with NTDC and the Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB).
