Zafarana 50 MW Grid Connected PV Power Plant
Egypt’s demand for electricity is growing rapidly because of rapid urbanisation and economic growth. The need to develop alternative power resources is becoming ever more urgent. Alternative energy options such as PV can help meet the increasing demand. NREA has set strategic targets to supply 20% of the electric energy demand form RE sources by the year 2022. In response to the government’s request, KfW cooperated with NREA on the identification and financing of a solar power plant with an installed capacity of 50 MW to be built in Zafarana.
NREA assigned intec to support their project implementation team and to supervise the PV plant procurement, construction as well as its operation and maintenance during the five year warranty period.

Congo - Performance of Technical, Environmental and Social Studies and Monitoring the Implementation of the Prohydro Programme
The project consists of the financing, construction and operation of hydropower plants and the corresponding transmission lines up to the REGIDESO (state water utility) water supply and treatment facilities, potential large consumers and of the distribution network to individual customers (households) and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) located near the sites. The hydropower plants will be partially financed by the private sector (IPP, PPP) under a power purchase agreement (PPA).
The objective, through UCM and the KfW bank, is to use the Tshilomba (3 MW), Tshala II (6 MW), and the Kafumbu (2 MW) projects as reference projects in order to improve the electricity supply to REGIDESO facilities as well as to the local population and industry by providing clean, renewable and reliable energy and reducing diesel fuel consumption.
For the 3 sites above existing feasibility studies will be updated, and preliminary ESIA, ESMP, resettlement framework and technical specifications for tender documents will be elaborated.
In addition, for 5 out of 12 preselected hydropower sites prefeasibility studies will be conducted.
As an option, assistance to UCM during the 24 months implementation period of the 3 sites in terms of technical, social and environmental aspects will be given.

The main objective of the consultant's service is divided into two main tasks:
Task 1:
- Review and update existing feasibility studies for the Tshilomba (3 MW), Tshala II (6 MW), and the Kafumbu (2 MW) hydropower plants
- Review and prepare preliminary environmental and social impact studies (preliminary ESIA) for the 3 sites including the transmission and distribution network and access roads according to Congolese legislation, IFC Performance Standards, and General Environmental, Health and Safety Directives (EHS) from the World Bank Group
- Preparation of Environmental, Social Management Plans (ESMP), political resettlement framework and review of necessary permits according to local and international standards (IFC)
- Preparation of technical specifications for tender documents serving as an input for the transaction and implementation consultant under another contract

The main results that are to be delivered under TAPSEC are: (i) The implementation of regulatory frameworks that enable renewable energy development and energy efficiency deployment; (ii) Improvements in the region's energy statistics and information management framework; (iii) The establishment of innovative financing mechanisms for renewable energy and energy efficiency projects, and (iv) Improvements in the technical capacity within the key institutions and stakeholder groups, at the regional and national levels.

The Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe (GoZ) has received Grant funding from the African Development Fund (ADF) and intends to apply part of the proceeds of this Grant to eligible payments under the contract for preparing Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) package reports for the following projects:
- Haven-Gokwe 132kV transmission line and Gokwe132/33kV substation;
- Tokwe–Masvingo 132kV transmission line and Masvingo 132/33kV substation; and
- Sunway City - Dema 132kV transmission line and Sunway City 132/33kV substation
Our task is production of comprehensive ESIA reports which meet the requirements of both the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) and the African Development Bank (AfDB) for the abovementioned proposed projects

Georgia - Environmental and social compliance monitoring
Georgian State Electrosystem JSC (GSE) is undertaking the "Transmission Grid Strengthening Project" which includes measures to improve the availability and reliability of GSE's transmission infrastructure. The present project is part of this overall programme; the line is constructed to connect the 185 MW Shuakhevi and the 150 MW Koromkheti Hydropower Stations to the national grid. Uganda - Karuma Interconnection Project (Kawanda 400 kV, Karuma - Lira 132 kV Transmission Lines and Associated Substations)
The Government of Uganda has launched a number of major projects in the energy sector, among which is the construction of the Karuma Hydropower Project (600 MW) on the Nile River, expected for commissioning in 2018. The present "Karuma Interconnection Project (KIP)" will provide the transmission infrastructure for evacuating the power generated by the Karuma Hydropower Plant. It includes the following components:
- Construction of a 400 kV D/C line between Karuma HPS Substation and Kawanda Substation (264 km)
- Upgrading of Kawanda and Karuma Substations (line bays, transformers, busbars, control and protection)
- Construction of a 132 kV D/C line between Karuma and Lira (80 km)
- Upgrading of Lira and Karuma Substations (line bays, control, protection and communication equipment)
- Construction of a 400 kV D/C line between Karuma and Olwiyo (60 km)
- Upgrading of Olwiyo and Karuma Substations (line bays, transformers, busbars, control and protection

Georgia - Environmental and social compliance monitoring
Georgian State Electrosystem JSC (GSE) is undertaking the "Transmission Grid Strengthening Project" which includes measures to improve the availability and reliability of GSE's transmission infrastructure. The present project is part of this overall programme; the line is constructed to connect the 185 MW Shuakhevi and the 150 MW Koromkheti Hydropower Stations to the national grid. The line will have a length of approx. 150 km.

The overall objective of the project consists of:
- Studying the feasibility of replacing the existing 60 kV line between Matoto and Kaloum with a 110 kV line
- Studying the feasibility of constructing a 110/20 kV primary substation at Sanoyah to feed the Kagbélen industrial zone and the distribution network of the Ansoumania zone
- An Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP)
- Establishing the technical specifications and elaborating the tender dossier for the con-struction of the 110/20 kV primary substation at Sanoyah.
