Mali - Kourouba hydropower plant
Kourouba hydropower plant
On 7 of Mai 2020 the kick-off meeting for the Kourouba hydropower plant took place via conference call due to the Covid-19 situation.
The goal of the project is to implement a small hydropower plant on the Sankarani River, a tributary to the Niger river, including the associated distribution network. The power plant will be integrated in an existing irrigation dam and will be equipped with 12 VLH turbines totalizing an installed capacity of 3,9 MW. The plant will bring energy to about 20.000 people in the Kourouba region located at 90 km from Bamako, the capital of Mali. The consulting services, financed by AfDB, comprise review and update of tender design, elaboration of tenders documents, environmental and social impact study and training of clients experts during an estimated project duration of 3 months.
Besides the Kourouba project intec’s comprehensive RE expertise and broad portfolio in Mali is highlighted by three other ongoing projects, namely:
- Owners Engineers services for the 7,5 MW Djenné hydropower plant (EDM - AfDB.
- Pre-feasibility study for a 13 MWC solar PV farm including storage for IPP Orange (telecommunication provider).
- Feasibility studies for large solar PV power plants reaching 600 MW in Mali and Burkina Faso including environmental and social impact assessment. In Mali three sites totalizing 300 MW are currently under investigation (West African Power Pool - WAPP).
