intec leads the green hydrogen session at the European Development Days 2022
intec’s Sustainable Energy team has organised an entire session on hydrogen at the latest edition of the European Development Days 2022 (EDD), in Brussels on 21 June 2022. The aim of EDD is bring all the development community together each year to share ideas and experiences in ways that inspire new partnerships leading to innovative solutions on the world’s most pressing challenges. Every year more than 4,000 visitors attend the event in person whilst others attend online.
The head of our Sustainable Energy department, Marco Caponigro, was the main moderator of the session. Amongst the main speakers of the session were Professor Martin Kaltschmidt and Dr. Fabian Carels from the Hamburg Technische Universität Hamburg, TUHH.
intec and TUHH presented the results of a current joint project financed by the African Development Bank, related to the assessment of hydrogen’s potential in three African Countries: Egypt, Ghana and Kenya. Within the study, the team has developed case studies that represent different pathways and options of green hydrogen production. Each case study illustrates:
- The renewable energy resources that can be allocated to hydrogen production
- The supply and production of green hydrogen including the renewable energy required
- Technical evaluation of hydrogen production and its derivatives plus other PtX products
- Basic design of possible plants as well as processing steps, storage potential, energy flow and efficiencies
- Overall supply costs
