We are happy to announce that GOPA-International Energy Consultants GmbH is now a certified carbon neutral company.

In order to receive this certification for the year 2023, we examined our entire value chain and drew up a Life Cycle Assessment for the past business years. The data, collected according to the stringent Greenhouse Gas Protocol, was subject to an in-depth audit.

As a result, all emissions from energy consumption to staff commuting to business travel, are now offset thanks to intec’s support of various projects:

• Clean cookstoves for Uganda, based on Gold Standard VER
• Wind energy in De Aar, South Africa, based on VCS Standard

Thanks to our commitment for example in South Africa, this wind power project will avoid about 433,920 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. In addition to the environmental benefits, the project assists the local community by creating jobs and improving the access to healthcare.

346 tCO2 is the exact number of emissions that we offset by investing in these two projects, but we see this new carbon neutral label as a reminder to act. This certification project brought about organizational changes, resulting in new ideas being explored and even the entire culture and awareness of the whole company changing, currently setting further goals to reduce our emissions.

Protection of environment and resources, our living space and the source for all that we do, are our highest priorities at intec, which aligns with the group wide decision of the whole GOPA Group to take responsibility for our impact on the planet.
